Variation to a Building Permit
It is not uncommon during the course of construction for designs to be amended, or alternative materials to be used. If this has happened, you need to contact the Building Surveyor who issued the building permit so they can approve your changes.
If you don't contact the Building Surveyor before you commence building works other than those specified on your building permit, you might be in breach of the original building permit.
If you are intending to change the designs or use alternative materials in your building works to those detailed in the original building permit, you might need to apply to council for a variation to your original building permit.
You will need to check with Planning Services if you have a current Planning Permit associated with your original building permit or to determine if your changes will trigger the need for a Planning Permit.
Please note: You must have a valid building permit and approved plans for any building works.
For more information, contact Building Services on 9217 2259 or visit the Civic Centre, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang (8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday, except for public holidays).
