Asset Protection

The City of Whittlesea has been experiencing high levels of growth and development in recent times. Damage to Council assets, primarily footpaths, caused by building works is an ongoing issue and continues to be a problem despite the previous Building Site Education Program.

Due to the increasing costs associated with repairing Council assets damaged through building works and the increased nuisance and loss of amenity caused to existing residents Council has amended its Building Site Code of Practice and embodied those provisions into the Council Local Law. The aim of these amendments is to reduce costs incurred by Council and to provide a safe and more pleasing environment for the community.

As a part of these new provisions Council has introduced an Asset Protection Fee which applies to all building permit applications for new residential dwellings. This fee is payable to Council prior to the commencement of any work on all sites for new dwellings and should be lodged with a "Commencement of Building Works Notification" form (Schedule 6).
